Course Overview
The Single Phase Certificate of Compliance (CoC) Unit Standard course is designed for electricians who want to be legally recognized to inspect, test, and certify single-phase electrical installations in South Africa. This course forms a critical part of the application process for a Wireman’s License.
What is the CoC Unit Standard – Single Phase?
This training equips qualified electricians with the knowledge and skills required to verify, test, and issue a Certificate of Compliance for single-phase electrical installations, as per SANS 10142 and the Electrical Installation Regulations.
On successful completion, learners receive a Statement of Results aligned with the Unit Standard 258968, which is required when applying to the Department of Employment and Labour (DoEL) for registration.
Course Content Includes
- Electrical installation testing procedures
- Use of testing instruments (multimeters, insulation testers, etc.)
- Reading and interpreting electrical drawings
- Single-phase wiring systems and fault-finding
- Compliance with safety regulations and SANS 10142
- CoC documentation and legal responsibilities

- NQF Level 3–4 Electrical Qualification
- Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal)
- Relevant workplace experience
- Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) – support provided during the course
